Good360 helps disadvantaged youth

Receiving the Nike sweatpants and other new clothes made a bigger difference than people might realise. For many of our young people, having comfortable, good-quality clothing they feel proud to wear helps restore a sense of dignity and belonging. We’ve seen an immediate boost in confidence young people are more willing to attend appointments, engage in programs, and participate in social activities when they’re not worried about how they look. It’s not just clothing; it’s a reminder that their community cares about them and wants them to succeed.

Tell us how and to whom you distributed the goods in your community

The donated Nike sweatpants and clothing were distributed through our Youth Health Service to young people aged 12–24 who are experiencing vulnerability, including those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, living in unstable housing, disengaged from school, involved with the justice system, or experiencing financial hardship. Many of the young people we support have limited access to essential items, and appropriate clothing is often not prioritised when they are focused on meeting basic daily needs.

Items were thoughtfully allocated by youth workers and health staff who understand each young person’s circumstances, ensuring the clothing reached those who would benefit most. Where possible, young people were invited to choose items that suited their style and size, helping to promote autonomy and dignity rather than the experience feeling like a handout.

One young person had been couch surfing for several months and arrived at our service wearing the same outfit repeatedly as it was all they owned. After receiving a pair of Nike trackpants and a hoodie, they shared that it was the first time in a long while they felt comfortable attending a job readiness program. Another young person selected activewear which enabled them to participate in a group fitness session they had previously avoided due to not having suitable clothes. Beyond meeting a practical need, the clothing supported social inclusion, confidence, and engagement with health and wellbeing programs. For many recipients, these items represented care, respect, and a sense of belonging within their community.

Tell us how these goods helped your community, program or organisation

The donated Nike clothing had a meaningful impact on both our young people and the way our service delivers support. Access to high-quality, practical clothing allowed us to respond immediately to young people presenting in crisis or experiencing hardship, ensuring their basic needs were met while we focused on their broader health and wellbeing goals. For many young people, appropriate clothing can be a barrier to participation. These items supported greater engagement in our programs, including education and employment support, health appointments, physical activity groups, and community events. We observed increased confidence among recipients, with several young people more willing to attend programs and social activities once they felt comfortable in what they were wearing. In this way, the donation directly strengthened program participation and helped create a more inclusive environment.

The clothing also enhanced our organisation’s capacity to provide holistic, person-centred care. Being able to offer new, branded items — rather than second-hand alternatives — promoted dignity and choice, reinforcing to young people that they are valued members of the community.

We would like to sincerely thank our donation partners for their generosity and commitment to supporting vulnerable young people. Contributions like these extend far beyond material goods; they foster connection, reduce stigma, and help create pathways for young people to engage positively with services and their community. Their support plays a vital role in helping us deliver impactful, compassionate care where it is needed most.
