As a worker in the homeless field with past life experience of being homeless as a teenager, I know how much it means to oneself to be able to clean your teeth when not privileged to showering facilities. It makes you feel at least half human.

Smiles for Miles – Thank you Vimwood

“When one person struggles, the community struggles”. This is often quoted in our workplace. We don’t have a singular quote from the children but their excitement and smiles were worth so much more. 1 young lady walked out with a couple of accessories and a back pack. She told us she was going to share with her friends. Our CEO called her back and insisted she fill a bag for her and her friends and told her never to lose her compassion.

Dignity for all

“Deadly!”. This a very common phrase used in the Aboriginal community. I simply means really good. awesome and wow. Our recipients were so grateful.

Shoes for Sport

We are so grateful for the donation. This means our kids have appropriate shoes for school

No more Moonas

“Moonas” is a common term in the Aboriginal community for head lice. One middle aged lady with extremely long hair suffers from Psoriasis. She reported back that her hair was now clean from lice and it didn’t irritate her skin. Many conversations were had about the different methods we have used in the past it kill the lice. Cheap conditioner, combing, Aunties spending hours on kids hair, and of course my least favourite being kerosene.

A Nice Lunch Out

*Ms T loved the bin bags and cloths as it helped her save money on her grocery bill, which she put towards a nice lunch out with a friend.

Pink Ribbon Luncheon

Our breast cancer community came together for our Pink Ribbon Luncheon in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. One of our wonderful cancer patients wanted to give back, creating beautiful handmade soaps to be gifted to fellow cancer warriors.

Dolls for Growth

Playing with dolls teaches children a variety of important skills, including social and emotional development, language and cognitive growth, and physical dexterity. To be able to share these with our families will not only give joy to the children with Down syndrome, but encourage skill development at the same time.
