For our students — many of whom live in refuges, supported independent living (SIL), hotels, or foster care — this donation means so much more than new clothing. It represents a sense of belonging. For a young person who may only own a few pieces of clothing, having fresh, warm, and stylish options means starting each day with dignity. It means walking into a classroom with confidence, standing tall among peers from more affluent backgrounds, and no longer feeling the quiet shame of not “matching” the others. It means better hygiene, with the ability to rotate clean clothes — something many of us take for granted. It means feeling proud of how they look, both at school and out in the community. For some, it may even be their very first experience of owning something brand new, just for them. This donation will also have a ripple effect. Feeling good in what they wear helps our students feel good about being here. It encourages regular attendance, opens the door to greater social connection, and ultimately, leads to better learning outcomes. It gives them the confidence to participate — whether in the classroom, on a school excursion requiring closed-in shoes, or at our upcoming Netball Gala, where they can now dress appropriately and feel part of the team.
