At Waddington Primary School, we are a community hub, providing practical, emotional and social support to children and families experiencing financial hardship, housing insecurity, unemployment and complex personal circumstances. For many, the rising cost of living means making difficult choices between purchasing food, paying bills and buying everyday hygiene essentials. We distributed the donated products, including shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes, through several established school initiatives:

Free Food Fridays: Toiletries were made available alongside our weekly food distribution, allowing families to access everyday essentials in a welcoming, familiar and non-judgemental environment.

Family food and wellbeing hampers: We included toiletries in care packages delivered directly to families experiencing hardship, ensuring support reached those who may be unable or reluctant to seek assistance.

Discreet individual support: Where we identified a particular need, staff placed hygiene products directly into students’ school bags or provided them privately to parents and carers. This approach was deliberate, protecting families from the embarrassment or stigma sometimes associated with needing help.

Support for vulnerable families: Products were provided to single-parent households, grandparents raising grandchildren, families experiencing housing instability and those managing additional financial pressures associated with disability or complex family circumstances.
