Laptops for digital access and connection.

"Steuart was incredibly grateful for his new laptop, as I was walking away after dropping it to him, I heard him say to himself, “Wow.” It was a small but meaningful moment of genuine gratitude" - Jenna, Linkages Case Manager “A donated laptop isn’t just access to technology - it’s a lifeline, opening doors to opportunity, connectedness and hope for someone overcoming life’s toughest challenges.” - Mel, Uniting Employment Services

Tell us how and to whom you distributed the goods in your community

Through the Home and Community Care Program for Young People (HACC PYP) Linkages, we support individuals with complex care needs through holistic case management and personalised case planning. The recent laptop donations were distributed to clients who face significant barriers due to their circumstances, health conditions, and lack of access to technology. Two recipients of these laptops were Steuart and Sharon. Steuart is a 43-year-old client working toward employment. Previously, he relied on a mobile phone or had to take a bus to access computers at his employment agency. He’s also completing an Animal Welfare course, which has been extremely difficult to manage on a phone. With his new laptop, he can now apply for jobs more efficiently, complete his studies with ease, attend online psychology appointments, and stay connected with family. Sharon lives with multiple health conditions and spends most of her time at home in isolation. Her only device was an old phone with a cracked screen, which was difficult to use, particularly given her vision challenges. Receiving a laptop has enabled her to read emails, access telehealth services, video chat with her daughter, and explore opportunities to connect with online peer groups. Inez lives with congenital deafness and communicates using AUSLAN. After relocating from Hobart to Melbourne in 2019 with her young son to escape family violence, Inez faced ongoing challenges in securing suitable employment and staying connected with family and friends in Tasmania. Through Uniting Employment Services she received a laptop, helping her maintain those vital connections. Today, Inez is thriving, the combination of meaningful work and renewed connectedness has been truly life-changing, opening up new opportunities and enriching her overall well-being.

Tell us how these goods helped your community, program or organisation

These laptops have made a real difference in the lives of our clients. By providing digital access, they’ve helped overcome the barriers of social isolation and digital exclusion. For our HACC PYP Linkages program, these donations directly support our mission of empowering people to achieve their personal goals. Whether it’s reconnecting with family, participating in education, accessing health services, or applying for jobs, the laptops have given recipients new opportunities and independence. For Uniting Employment Services, the donated laptops supported participants in Disability Employment Services to assist them in their search for work, assistance with training and having access to information. We are incredibly grateful to Good360 for making this possible.
