We thank Pan Macmillan for their donation of these books. We know how important it is for children to be engaging with books/reading/speaking from when they are born and we aim to encourage this in our playgroup. We have a sharing library where families can take home a book and return – but it is very nice to be able to gift them a brand new book to keep! Our playgroup is free for the community – so being able to afford to gift a book to every child who comes through our doors (and we have many many children come through our doors!), well I don’t know if it would be possible given how expensive books can be! These books are perfect too because they are board books so good for the 0-5 age range. Many of our families are new to Australia and are still learning English and getting settled into the community. In our playgroup group time I read the Ginger and the Vegesaurs book before giving it out to the children. The children and families all seemed very excited they got to take a copy home for themselves. I also made it a theme for the day so set up activities – making the vegesaurs masks, and having dinosaur/vegetable activities to support children and families being more engaged with the books!
