Streamlining us to help wider and smarter

"Our huge treasure trove of goodies in DIK warehouse can finally be reliably be made accessible to all... as it deserves to be." Bronwyn

Tell us how and to whom you distributed the goods in your community

At Donations in Kind (DIK), our mission is to ensure that no usable medical or educational equipment goes to waste when it can change lives. With the support of your donation, we will be able to distribute essential goods to more folk in need in our community and beyond. Locally, we have provided mobility aids, hospital beds, and medical equipment to individuals living with disability, seniors in aged care, and people recovering from illness who could not otherwise afford such vital resources. These items help people regain independence, dignity, and comfort in their daily lives. We also work closely with local hospitals, clinics, and health services that rely on repurposed equipment to deliver care. For example, surplus items from major hospitals—once destined for landfill—are now serving people in our own community through our efficient collection and distribution system. Our reach extends to educational organisations, too. Desks, chairs, whiteboards, and teaching materials are distributed to schools and community centres supporting disadvantaged youth, creating better learning environments and fostering opportunity. In addition, we support humanitarian projects internationally. Goods not needed locally are sent to Rotary-led initiatives abroad, ensuring that nothing useful is wasted.

The laptops are becoming an essential part of our daily operations at Donations in Kind (DIK). They empower our volunteers—many of whom are retirees and all people from various walks of life to efficiently manage and distribute life-changing donated goods to individuals and communities in need. In our West Footscray warehouse, the laptops are used to photograph, barcode, and catalogue each donated item—whether it’s hospital beds, medical equipment, or mobility aids—into our online inventory system. This ensures accurate tracking and allows us to match goods quickly to those who need them most. The laptops also help us streamline volunteer management, ensuring everyone is registered and working safely, while providing transparency and accountability for all items that leave our warehouse. Additionally, they enable remote volunteering, allowing people to contribute from home by assisting with inventory management and goods matching. This donation has brought technology, efficiency, and inclusion to our mission.
With this support, we are reaching further countless individuals in need—locally, nationally, and internationally. Goods catalogued and tracked using the donated laptops are distributed to a wide range of recipients, including: Local community organisations supporting people experiencing disadvantage, disability, or recovering from illness. Hospitals and healthcare facilities that urgently need medical and mobility equipment but cannot afford to purchase new items. Schools and educational institutions that receive furniture and learning resources giving children better opportunities. International humanitarian projects led by Rotary clubs, delivering vital equipment to underserved communities around the world. Each item we distribute restores dignity, independence, and hope. Whether it’s a wheelchair helping someone regain mobility or a hospital bed easing a patient’s recovery, your donated laptops have enabled us to deliver not just equipment—but care, compassion, and connection—to those who need it most.
