We offered community residents an opportunity to access these donated items as required for those that were in need. Most of the families have multiple children and intergenerational families which means there are a lot of people living under one roof in a smaller space. These cloths, cleaning items have a huge impact which allows them to spend more money on food for the family. All the children that attended the celebration were so happy to get a coloring book for themselves. We also had some local schools in the area bring their students to our program. Some of the students shared their art work showcasing what “freedom” meant to them and it was on display in the Art Gallery. As a thank you to the local schools that participated, we gave them the white board markers for their class. Most of the students that attended shared stories of their families who came here as refugees, it was a beautiful opportunity to capture their stories.
