Christmas 2024

Oh my goodness ‘Doin for Aussie Rural Kids’, you sure have some excited kids here in West Wyalong! You guys are amazing, we are blown away by your generosity. You have put some big smiles on these kids faces, as they have had a pretty crappy time lately with me being in hospital since August. After 128 days in Sydney, (most of those in St Vincent’s hospital), we got the go ahead on Saturday from the doctors to go home to West Wyalong for Christmas. Lots of stars needed to align for it to happen, and thankfully they did. Back to hospital for me next week, but that’s ok, being with the family today is special. The presents are just wonderful, you have nailed each kid perfectly. Thank you all so much, I can only imagine how much time and effort went into all that shopping and wrapping, but we appreciate every little bit. People like you guys and the kindness shown, really make a difference to families like us. In what has been a difficult year, support like this helps us all to smile and carry on, plus you have saved me so much time and worry with trying to do the Christmas shopping from my hospital bed. As well as all this, you have shown these little kids that there are kind people out there who will support others when times are tough. I am sure they will remember this forever and hopefully be kind to others throughout their lives. You guys really do spread so much love and positivity, the world needs more people like you all. We always say what goes around, comes around, I really think you all deserve a whole lot of love and happiness coming your way. Thank you again for your support and generosity, you sure have added an extra bit of sparkle to us all this Christmas, and put some huge smiles on these kids’ faces. All the best to you and your family for a beautiful Christmas and a special 2024. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help your organisation in the future. What a wonderful idea. Lots of love from Sheridan.

Tell us how and to whom you distributed the goods in your community

The goods that we collect throughout the year are held and distributed to families who are struggling in the bush through our programs – Christmas Toys for our Rural Girls and Boys – families are identified and nominated by members of the community, family members etc. DIFRAK provide individual and personalised Santa Sacks for every child in the family 0-18. Families may be located anywhere in Australia and once identified and contact made, the sacks are made up and personally delivered or posted if too far from any of the team members. KISS (Kids In-need Santa Sacks) – we work alongside health facilitators located in various health services – Dubbo, Wellington, Bathurst, Parkes, Tamworth, Albury and Queensland Childrens Hospital. This program allows our health professionals the ability to identify and assist the families who are really struggling within their communities or who have sought health care within their facilities. The health professionals make up the Santa Sacks and personally deliver to the struggling families. This also builds relationships between patients and staff and removes the scary element of the hospital system. YOWIE (Youth, Outback, Work-hard, Inspire, Encourage) – our founder entertainer Jason Owen visits schools in rural and remote parts of Australia and undertakes motivational talks, singalongs and gift giving at Christmas time. These gifts and visits are incredibly successful bringing lots of joy and excitement. From this program we also send out Calm Corner packs to schools for the school to create a calm and peaceful place for the children to gather their thoughts.

Tell us how these goods helped your community, program or organisation

Thank you doesn’t seem enough to express our sincere gratitude to Good360 Australia and all the partners who have provided such amazing goods to our little charity. We are incredibly grateful to Lego, Hasbro, Vimwood, Nike, Optus, Paul Macmillan Australia, Best & Less and everyone who donates. The goods that you have all provided will be precious Christmas gifts and memories for rural children across Australia. Christmas 2025 is shaping up to be one of our biggest to date, with 3 programs – Christmas Toys for our Rural Girls and Boys, KISS (Kids In-need Santa Sacks) health based and YOWIE (Youth, Outback, Work-hard, Inspire Encourage) school program. The Santa Sacks for families and school gifts may be the only gift that the child or children receive due to many various reasons – financial hardship, sickness, trauma, natural disasters etc. Our programs are working well and through the nomination process we are capturing many families who would never reach out for assistance. Thank you again Good360 and absolutely everyone involved – your kindness not only touches our hearts but the hearts of hundreds of kids each year.
This year we have also provided assistance to families who were traumatised and lost everything in flooding on the Mid North Coast of NSW. Finding families in the West Kempsey and Smithtown areas proved to be heartbreaking and witnessing the devastation was something that many of us were not prepared for. We were also able to provide a Calm Corner Pack to the Smithtown Public School who experienced flooding up to their doorsteps, but had families that had been devastated with flood water through their homes and farms. Thank you to everyone who provided many of the goods and warm clothing that we were able to distribute.
